Every little girl and quite literally her mother knew about the new amusement park that would be opening near Craigsville, Utah. No little girl knew this better than 6-year-old Carrie Langley. For years the super-hero theme park Endless Flight had been open to all families, but never any them parks like this. Carried loved superheroes, of course. However, she'd always wished for a place where fairies, princesses, and a Pegasus could come to life.
Well, now her wish was reality. The opening of Fairy Flight made her little heart skip a beat as the huge gates swung open. Her jaw hanging in her lap Carrie held her mother's hand as the walked along. The gate itself had been awe-inspiring, created from the most beautiful pale lavender-painted metal the child had ever seen. Before even journeying deeply into the park, the young guests of the park were escorted a few steps from the path leading to the attractions to small booths set up specially for them. Costumes of dresses, armors, prince uniforms, tiaras, fairy wings, and swords beckoned them in the booths. Carrie fashioned herself a fairy knight costume with bright purple wings and a long silver plastic sword, before receiving a thin coat of face paint and play makeup from
the smiling attendants.
Now that she was properly costumed, Carrie was allowed to continue on her way into Fairy Flight. There were beautiful rides seeming to be made of pearls and gold leaning in towards Carrie's eyes. There a pretend flying carriage carried on, and there a dragon roller-coaster soared its way past. Even the horses of the carousel had feather or butterfly wings! Carrie's eyes were bright and sparkling as she took everything in, particularly the flower garden maze nearby and the sugar dust snack stand.
The family of two, Carrie and her mother spent that very special day together, making memories that would carry them on through the years, in happiness and pain. In the future when Carrie's own small girl reached for her mother's hand, Carrie would blink away her tears as she and her daughter stepped through those pale violet gates. For nothing was sweeter or sadder than the memories she could, did, and would make. Another special day was due in Fairy Flight.
This was a great story Katie! I loved how original the plot and characters were!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job!
I love how you saw the paint color as the name of an amusement park! And what a fantastical place for "every little girl and quite literally her mother." I really like the closing paragraph and the thought that the memories made in Fairy Flight would serve as a comfort for years to come, in good times and bad, for this little "family of two."
